Grace in the Chaos

Crazy Chaos. Good Grace.

Finding True Rest

Living in the trust that God knows our hearts frees us to focus on his character rather than our burdens or desires. This trust realigns our minds to who He is instead of what we want from him. Focus shifts, then, from needs to praise, from what’s lacking to what’s worshipful, and it’s here, in this shift, that true rest is found.

It’s here, in conversation with the Father, with the One who provides, who comforts, who gives peace, who lifts burdens, who strengthens and carries his children, that all else loosens its grip and rest is found.

When the to do list causes a spiral in your mind, when the needs of the family pour in fast and desperate, remember who HE is. Focus on the character and nature of God the Father and Jesus the son, on the sufficiency of the Holy Spirit in you. Recall His past goodness and speak back to Him who He has been. This aligns the mind and heart with the truth of His nature. Call out the attributes of his character until the spiraling has been replaced by praising. In this shift from self to savior, the relief he promises in Matthew 11:28-30 is felt. It’s here, in this shift from your needs to His sufficiency, that you realize things really will be okay.

So, as you offer up your prayers, bring not a list of requests but rather a heart to praise. Rest assured that God knows the things that trouble you, and you need not hash out the details with him if it feels to great to bear. He sees you. He hears you. The Holy Spirit intercedes for you, so friend, you are free to focus on the character of God. It’s His good design. It’s how we take our thoughts captive and align them with the things above. It’s how we live in the peace that surpasses understanding and the joy that is deeper than circumstances. It’s here, in this shift from personal struggle to awareness of who God is, that we truly rest.

Father in Heaven, You are faithful. Your goodness is all over this day, in the sunshine, in the rain, in the song of the birds and the breath of my children. Father, you are Mercy and Grace. You are the Protector and the Provider. You are the Healer, the Great Physician. Your faithfulness is proven in the sunrise and in the rhythm of creation, and you say you love me more than all you’ve made. And you say you love my children more! And you say you are with me and that you go before me! How great is your love, father! How trustworthy you are. You are the True Shepherd. You satisfy my soul and offer peace even when nothing feels at peace. Thank you, Jehovah-Jireh. Thank you father in Heaven. I love you. I trust you. Amen.
